ACNP/PA - Hospital Medicine - Swing

Job Overview This position operates within a collaborative model that includes residents, fellows, attendings, and staff caring for hospital medicine patients on the floors of the Medical Center. The role reports to the Medical Director or an approved staff physician and collaborates with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching of residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning. Education Required (NP): Master’s degree in Nursing. Required (PA): Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or completion of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program. Work Experience Required: None. Preferred: 3 years of related working experience. Certifications Required (NP): Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice. Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Clinic Nurse Specialist by AACN or ANCC. Required (PA): License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA certified, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association, and eligibility for prescriptive authority as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of job information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Proficiency with Windows-based applications, various software packages, and keyboard usage. Strong interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at department, campus, and system levels. Reliable transportation; must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability. Job Duties Utilize the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care. Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas. Maintain an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes, and may develop research methodology. Provide educational experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy respect, patient introduction, service explanation, permission requests, and communication style. Other related duties as required. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must stand for prolonged periods of time and be able to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, demonstrating manual dexterity. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain communicable diseases, presenting an occupational risk for exposure. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be an occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
