ACNP/PA - Hospital Medicine - Swing

This role is part of a collaborative model that includes residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for hospital medicine patients on floors of the Medical Center. The position works under the supervision of the Medical Director or an approved staff physician and in partnership with PCCs, staff nurses, and a discharge coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate medical and nursing care. Responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching of residents and medical students, staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning. Education Required (NP): Master’s degree in Nursing Required (PA): Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or completion of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program Work Experience Required: None Preferred: 3 years of related working experience Certifications Required (NP): Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice; Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Clinic Nurse Specialist by AACN or ANCC; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association; Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing Required (PA): License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA Certified; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association; Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role, and keyboard usage. Strong interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level. Reliable transportation; must travel throughout and between facilities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability). Job Duties Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas. Maintains an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may develop research methodology. Provides educational experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, methods of introduction, adaptation of service explanations, obtaining permissions, and communication style. Other related duties as required. Physical and Environmental Demands The physical demands of the role include moving objects ranging from 10 to 50 pounds, standing for prolonged periods, stooping, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity. The role requires exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potential communicable diseases, as well as hazardous medications and waste.
