Attending Physician - Wellness & Weight Management Health System Clinician

Job Description Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and the Department of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine are seeking a part‑time or full‑time, non‑tenure‑eligible Health System Clinician in the Wellness and Weight Management program, part of the Division of Advanced General Pediatrics and Primary Care. The position will be employed by the Lurie Children’s Medical Group and part of the Operating Unit of the Department of Pediatrics. About the Role Clinical responsibilities include outpatient care for children and adolescents (ages 2 to 19) with obesity and related cardio‑renal‑metabolic complications. The Wellness and Weight Management Program sees nearly 3,000 patient visits annually at one of three outpatient locations. Team Composition Physicians Advanced Practice Providers Registered Dietitians Nursing and Medical Assistant support Social Work Administrative staff Program Services Intensive lifestyle interventions Pharmacotherapy Coordination with Lurie Children’s Bariatric Surgery Program Access to a broad network of Lurie Children’s subspecialists Academic & Institutional Responsibilities All faculty members are expected to participate in educational programs of the Department and Feinberg School of Medicine, which may include teaching service, training, preceptorship, mentoring, etc. Faculty are also expected to attend divisional and departmental meetings and engage in other administrative duties as determined by the Division Head. Advocacy work on behalf of patients, families, and the community we serve is an important component of LCMG’s and Lurie Children’s mission, and faculty are expected to support initiatives in this area. Location Primary clinical time will be based at Lurie Children’s new Austin HOPE Center, located in the Austin neighborhood. This new multispecialty clinic and hub for pediatric specialty care and community services is co‑developed with the Stone Community Development Corporation and Community Neighborhood Initiatives. As program needs evolve, clinical responsibilities may expand to additional allocations. Qualifications Board certified in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine‑Pediatrics Clinical experience in weight management (primary care or relevant subspecialties such as Endocrinology, Cardiology, or Gastroenterology) Doctorate in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine with specialization in pediatrics Valid licenses for the State of Illinois Board certification or board eligibility required Excellent written and oral communication skills Passion for pediatric care Preferred Qualifications Board certification in Obesity Medicine or completion of an obesity medicine fellowship Candidates not yet certified may be eligible for institutional support to obtain certification Base Salary Range $175,000 to $290,000 Job Duties Conduct regular thorough examinations on newborns and children to check and record their physical and mental development. Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms. Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history. Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration. Diagnosis, treatment and screening of mental health illness in pediatric population. Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities. Consult with fellow pediatric partners and nurses on best practices. Examine and treat injuries; refer to physicians of other specialties when necessary. Advise parents on children’s diet, exercise and disease preventive measures. Emphasis on early detection and prevention. Maintain updated records of patients’ illnesses, surgeries or other medical episodes. Advocate for patients, families, and fellow staff members. Keep abreast of advancements in pediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences.
