Custodian

Overview The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all areas assigned. Roles & Responsibilities Perform janitorial duties. Perform all duties listed on the daily schedule. Perform hazardous waste responsibilities, including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging of special and hazardous waste. Operate motorized cleaning equipment. Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area. Report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor. Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures. Address risk behavior of others and self. Perform work assignments in a team with other employees. Perform repetitive tasks. Maintain clean work area. Follow all protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules. Take direction and respond to supervision. Communicate with lead, supervisor, co‑workers, managers, and customers in a professional manner. Fill in during staff shortage. Support shift lead in completing punch‑list items. Use proper personal protective equipment. Present a professional appearance and conduct. Understand customer service and satisfaction. Understand reporting systems and environmental documents. Qualifications No specific education requirement; 3–6 months training or experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. May be required to have a valid driver’s license. Completed all safety and task training certifications. May be required to be forklift certified. Bilingual a plus. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, and willingness to share with team. Knowledge of the upkeep and care of cleaning equipment. Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use. There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. Physical Demands & Work Environment The employee is frequently required to sit and talk or listen, lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and may encounter the usual environmental characteristics of a custodial work setting.
