About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Competent in arterial lines, able to titrate drips, able to read and interpret telemetry strips Description: Unit operates with a total of 40 beds and an average daily census of 24 patients. Patient ratios are 1:4-5 for both days and nights. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac medical/surgical, dialysis, cancer, vascular conditions, sepsis, adult respiratory issues, stroke, post-stent care, post-pacer placement, and renal failure. Registered Nurses are required to titrate various drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, dopamine, cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin. Charge Nurses are present on each shift and take assignments. Patient care technicians are available on the unit with a ratio of 1:12. Registered Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting high-flow respiratory equipment. Registered Nurses must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts run from 0630 to 1830 or from 1830 to 0630. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holidays require a minimum of two during the contract period. Floating to MedSurg or ICU for PCU acuity patients is necessary. The required scrub color is navy blue. The unit employs overhead lifts in half of the rooms along with portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners. Patient experience scores, responsiveness, hospital environment, and communication about medications are critical focus areas. Success in this role requires flexibility, adaptability, teamwork, and strong communication skills. Candidates should be open to learning and receiving feedback. The unit serves diverse cultural populations. Required time off should be disclosed upfront and may not exceed seven days for a 13-week contract. The hospital may cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required but is preferred. Trauma Level 2 care is provided. The setting is acute care nursing.
