REMOTE POSITION - VIRGINIA RESIDENTS ONLY: This is a temporary, part-time W-2 position available to candidates residing in Virginia. The position is primarily remote; however, an initial onsite visit to VersAbility Resources' corporate office in Hampton, Virginia, is required for equipment pickup, orientation, a building tour, and team introductions.

Role Overview
VersAbility Resources is seeking an experienced Senior HR Business Partner to provide temporary, project-based HR support to our Vice President of Human Resources, HR team, and organizational leaders.

This is an experienced individual contributor role designed for an HR professional who can independently step into complex projects, provide practical guidance, and help strengthen HR processes and practices.

The initial focus will be strengthening employee relations and workplace investigation practices, including developing consistent templates, case files, trackers, training resources, coaching, and case support. As organizational priorities evolve, projects may expand to include job description reviews, policy and handbook updates, benefits audit support, employment compliance reviews, required workplace postings, and other HR initiatives.

This position has no direct reports and no final authority for employment decisions.

What You'll Do
Partner with the Vice President of Human Resources and HR team members to establish priorities, deliverables, timelines, and practical solutions.
Develop and refine a standardized employee relations and workplace investigation toolkit, including intake forms, interview guides, investigation plans, evidence logs, case chronologies, report templates, closure documents, file structures, and trackers.
Conduct or support fair, thorough, and timely workplace investigations, including interviewing participants, reviewing information, organizing records, and preparing factual summaries or reports.
Develop and facilitate practical training, job aids, and coaching for HR staff and managers on investigations, documentation, issue identification, escalation, and approved HR tools.
Serve as a resource to HR Generalists handling complex employee relations matters and help identify when concerns should be escalated.
Review and update job descriptions for accuracy, consistency, qualifications, reporting relationships, physical requirements, and alignment with organizational needs.
Research and draft HR policy, procedure, and employee handbook updates for leadership and legal review.
Support benefits audits by compiling, organizing, reconciling, and documenting information and identifying discrepancies requiring escalation.
Assist with employment compliance reviews, including workplace postings and notices, recordkeeping practices, policy documentation, and corrective actions.
Apply applicable company policies, collective bargaining agreements, Service Contract Act requirements, and federal contractor requirements.
Protect confidential information and appropriately escalate legal or compliance questions.
Support additional HR projects and priorities as assigned.

Routine recruiting and benefits administration are not primary responsibilities of this position.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Labor Relations, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
At least eight years of progressive human resources experience, including at least three years of substantial employee relations and workplace investigation responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to handle complex and sensitive HR matters with neutrality, sound judgment, discretion, and limited oversight.
Strong writing and editing skills, including experience preparing investigation reports, templates, job descriptions, policies, procedures, training materials, audit records, or compliance documentation.
Strong organization and project-management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, spreadsheets, virtual collaboration tools, and secure document-management systems.
Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments in a remote work environment.
Preferred
Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
Experience supporting a nonprofit organization or federal contractor, including work involving AbilityOne, the Service Contract Act, affirmative action obligations, or collective bargaining agreements.
Experience coaching HR professionals, facilitating training, and supporting job documentation, policy, audit, or employment compliance reviews.

Schedule & Temporary Assignment
This is a temporary, part-time position anticipated to last approximately three months, with the possibility of a written extension. The temporary assignment does not guarantee employment for a specific period or conversion to a regular position.
The schedule is flexible and will be discussed during the interview process, with hours determined based on business and project needs.

Reasonable availability during normal business hours is required for interviews, meetings, training, and collaboration.

Employees must receive direction before working beyond their approved schedule or weekly limit and must accurately record all hours worked.

Remote Work Arrangement
This position is fully remote for Virginia residents, with an initial onsite visit to the Hampton corporate office required for equipment pickup, orientation, a building tour, and team introductions.

Employees must maintain a private work environment appropriate for confidential HR interviews, records, and conversations and use approved company equipment and systems.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is primarily performed using a computer, telephone, and video conferencing and requires extended periods of screen viewing, keyboard use, reviewing records, listening, speaking, and concentrating on detailed information.

The initial onsite visit may require ordinary movement throughout an office environment and handling company equipment.

Compensation
$40.00-$50.00 per hour, based on experience
This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt W-2 position.
