Health Care Technician II (S)

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. Murdoch Developmental Center is seeking a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our Transportation Department. This position is ideal for entry-level EMTs with some patient care experience who are looking to build their skills in a supportive team-oriented healthcare environment. As a Medical Transport Technician, you will be responsible for providing safe and compassionate transportation and medical support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), both on campus and off-site medical facilities. All employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Recruitment Range: $39,312.00 - $43,302.00

A Sign-on bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Must have EMT certification
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Necessary Required Training or Certification - As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

This position DOES NOT require NA I certification.

Normal working hours are on 1st Shift 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m., including Holidays and every other weekend. Some flexibility required to meet center's needs.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

• The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
• The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
• DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
