Travel RN - Labor & Delivery

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a rural Family Birth Center offering comprehensive LDRP care, requiring 5 years of experience and NRP certification.

Family Birth Center providing labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn services in a rural LDRP setting

Handles newborn stabilization for transport and averages approximately 225 births annually

Facility performs fewer than 100 births per month

Patient ratio of 1:4

Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM

Every other weekend required

Active CA RN license

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN Intermediate required; AWHONN Advanced and FHM preferred)

Minimum 5 years of Labor & Delivery experience required

Community hospital experience preferred

Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, and venous blood draws

Skilled in labor and delivery management including high-risk and vaginal delivery, forceps/vacuum extraction, and hemorrhage/shock response

Experience with amnioinfusion (preferred), C-section recovery, and sterile vaginal exams

Proficient in medication administration including antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline

Skilled in neonatal care including APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, radiant warmer/thermoregulation use, and newborn assessment

Experience with newborn care including circumcision assistance, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, and neonatal abstinence syndrome care

Skilled in antepartum procedures including sterile speculum exams, NST, reflex checks, and external fetal heart monitoring

Experience with postpartum care including baby-friendly protocols, breastfeeding support, foley catheter management, and fundus/lochia/perineum care

Skilled in postpartum care for cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension

Experience with pain management including epidural anesthesia and IV PCA use

Skilled in fetal monitoring including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, and IUPC placement and calibration

Any charting system experience accepted, with preference for candidates with prior EMR exposure

Provide compassionate, patient-centered care across labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn services in a supportive, team-oriented environment

Adaptable and clinically confident nurses are encouraged to apply given the rural, comprehensive care setting

Holiday coverage may be required for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, with only one holiday request approved per contract

Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract

Must reside within a 50-mile radius to be eligible for the local rate

Returning staff or travelers must have a one-year separation before returning
