South Bay Regional Public Communications Authority South Bay Regional Public Communications (SBRPCA) provides 9‑1‑1 dispatch services to the cities of Gardena, Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach, Culver City, El Segundo, and Hermosa Beach. SBRPCA is a leading multi‑jurisdictional dispatch center that serves our communities and citizens in their times of greatest need. The Communications Operators link the public, police, and fire personnel to ensure rapid and accurate emergency response. Offering a Signing Bonus Signing bonus available up to $7,500 for lateral applicants and $5,000 for non‑lateral applicants. Responsibilities Serve as the primary link between the public, police, and fire personnel. Dispatch police and fire apparatus using the computer‑aided dispatch system. Receive emergency telephone calls and assist citizens with service requests and general inquiries. Refer calls to other agencies and make appropriate notifications. Exercise independent judgment in dispatching units, prioritizing calls, and providing tactical information. Provide information to police personnel regarding warrants, driving records, and property. Give pre‑arrival EMS instructions and life‑saving directions over the telephone. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum age 18 years. Valid California driver’s license. Ability to type at least 35 net words per minute while conversing on telephone and/or radio. Ability to listen to multiple simultaneous conversations from radio, telephone, and colleagues, discerning voices and sources accurately. Proficient reading, writing, and spelling. Clear, distinct, calm, and correct speech with good modulation. Ability to understand, retain, and repeat simple and complex oral and written instructions. Adequate vision without color blindness. Fast, efficient, calm response to emergencies and stressful situations while implementing effective actions. Availability to work all shift assignments including weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime (current schedule: 6:00 A.M.–6:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M.–6:00 A.M.).
