Postdoctoral Research Associate - Ophthalmology

Position Summary The Wang lab in the Department of Visual Sciences is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. Our research focuses on discovering mechanisms that govern ocular tissue development and homeostasis, with the goal of applying this knowledge to translational research in ocular disease diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. We use a diverse range of techniques including mouse genetics, cell and molecular biology, computational bioinformatics, and bioengineering. Through established clinical collaborations, we also have unique opportunities to conduct clinical research with human eye specimens. Core Research Directions Basic Research: Investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ocular tissue development and homeostasis, including the lens, retina, and tear gland. Clinical Research: Analyze human post‑mortem eye tissue and patient samples to directly inform research discoveries. Translational Research: Develop therapeutic strategies to prevent and treat ocular surface diseases, such as dry eye disease. Job Description Lead a project focused on tear gland development and management of dry eye disease. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Assist with grant preparation and reporting. Prepare and submit papers on research. Assist in the design of research experiments. Evaluate research findings and assist in reporting results. Conscientiously discharge research responsibilities. Maintain compliance with ethical standards. Maintain compliance with good laboratory practice and maintain adequate research records. Engage in open and timely discussions with mentor regarding possession or distribution of materials, reagents, or records and proposed disclosure of findings. Conduct collegial conduct toward co‑trainees, staff, and research group members. Adhere to all applicable University policies, procedures, and regulations. All data and intellectual property generated remain the property of the University. Working Conditions This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals. Salary Range Base pay is commensurate with experience. Required Qualifications Education: Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree. No specific certification or professional license required. No specific work experience required.
