ATHERTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS POSTED MAINTENANCE POSITION FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR July 6, 2026 Position: Maintenance Department: Maintenance Beginning Date: Immediate Application Deadline: Until Filled SUMMARY: To provide students with a safe, comfortable, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month GECS employee. $18.00- $20.00 hourly. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. 1) Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas in good repair at all times. 2) Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity. 3) Shovel, plow, and salt walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate. 4) Keep the grounds free from rubbish. 5) Grass cutting, tree trimming, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds. 6) Make building repairs where appropriate. 7) Maintain on a regular schedule all air handling units, circulating pumps, sump pumps, air conditioning units. 8) Report immediately to the Operations Director any damage to school property. 9) Assumes responsibility for the proper opening of the buildings each school day. 10) Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair. 11) Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Operations Director. 12) Appropriately maintain all athletic fields during and after each season. 13) Other duties as assigned by the Operations Director. 14) Willingness to obtain CDL B, Water License, and others as needed
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. Evidence of good physical condition. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Demonstrate knowledge in basic techniques of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating, and cooling. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
