Ratios for patient care will be 1:4-6. Nurses will be required to work every other weekend. Key required skills include blood product administration, peripheral line care, and wound care. Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and orthopedic trauma is essential. Knowledge of surgical drains, chest tubes, and various oxygen therapies is necessary. The daily census on the unit is approximately 50-55 patients. Interdisciplinary support will be provided by physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Patients will include those in acute care surgery for conditions like appendicitis and gallbladder issues. Successful candidates must be capable of interpreting dysrhythmias and managing high-flow oxygen therapies. Administration of insulin and PCA alongside starting IVs is required. The role includes care for geriatric trauma patients and individuals with acute surgical needs.
