About the Role

We are looking for a Product Lead to take ownership of the company's product and engineering functions. This is our senior product leadership position and includes direct management responsibilities.

You will lead the engineering team, own the product roadmap, determine what gets built and when, and ensure that what ships delivers measurable results. You will take over from our current Head of Product and work closely with the Founder & CEO.

Because AI is at the core of our platform, you must have strong hands-on understanding of AI systems, including agent architectures, prompting, evaluations, model selection, and model behavior. You should also stay current with developments in AI and understand how new model capabilities can create opportunities for the product.

This is a high-speed, high-accountability environment. Work is clearly scoped, assigned, and dated, with turnarounds often measured in days. Product demos happen twice a week and serve as an important approval gate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the engineering team day to day, including setting priorities, assigning ownership, establishing deadlines, removing blockers, and maintaining accountability.
• Translate product goals into clearly scoped, buildable deliverables with defined owners and timelines.
• Report product and engineering progress directly to the CEO.
• Write high-quality PRDs covering problem statements, success metrics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and prototypes before development begins.
• Own the AI layer hands-on, including agent architecture, prompts, evaluations, model selection, and quality standards.
• Monitor new AI model releases and capabilities and incorporate relevant developments into the product roadmap.
• Own the complete product development lifecycle, from idea intake and PRD creation through technical design, development, testing, demo, and launch.
• Review and approve technical designs and personally conduct acceptance testing after development QA.
• Establish and manage product stage gates and provide final sign-off before release.
• Conduct mandatory pre-production reviews, including security, permissions, failure modes, and edge cases.
• Define and monitor product success metrics and evaluate post-launch performance against benchmarks.
• Track product performance and its impact on customer retention.
• Lead the development and launch of the company's next product line.
• Maintain the company's product operating cadence, including:
• Product reviews with the CEO three times per week
• Product demos twice per week
• Daily asynchronous standups

Required Qualifications

• Deep experience building AI-powered products, including agent architectures, prompt engineering, evaluation systems, model selection, and understanding model behavior.
• Proven experience shipping AI products that customers have paid for.
• Direct experience managing software engineers and leading a small, high-performing engineering team.
• Strong ability to set priorities, establish deadlines, manage delivery, and maintain accountability.
• Several years of product management experience within a software company.
• Proven experience managing product roadmaps and backlogs and writing structured PRDs.
• Hands-on experience conducting acceptance testing and evaluating product quality.
• Strong familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code or similar platforms.
• Ability to understand technical designs and personally QA AI agent pipelines.
• Strong attention to the final stages of product delivery, including security, permissions, failure modes, edge cases, and overall product quality.
• Demonstrated ability to work at high speed while maintaining ownership and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or managing LLM quality and evaluation processes at production scale.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Martech
• Messaging infrastructure
• Civic technology
• Large-scale consumer data products
