Reports To: Ownership / Senior Management Team Position Overview A well-established wholesale distribution company is seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function. This individual will be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements, variance analysis, budgeting support, cash flow oversight, inventory accounting, and the overall management of the accounting department. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive accounting leader who enjoys working in a fast‑paced distribution environment and is comfortable balancing strategic financial oversight with day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Perform detailed variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods Analyze financial results and provide actionable recommendations to management Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial reporting process Lead month‑end and year‑end close activities Accounting Operations Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll review, and credit management Supervise and mentor accounting staff, establishing accountability and development opportunities Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by staff Inventory & Distribution Accounting Manage inventory accounting and valuation processes Monitor inventory reserves, adjustments, and reconciliations Partner with operations to improve inventory accuracy and reporting Cash Flow & Working Capital Management Monitor cash flow and liquidity needs Assist with cash forecasting and working capital management Oversee collections activities in conjunction with the Credit Manager Evaluate trends in receivables, payables, and inventory to optimize cash flow Systems & Process Improvement Leverage the company’s AS/400 ERP environment to improve reporting and operational efficiency Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and strengthen financial controls Develop and maintain meaningful management reporting packages and KPIs Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 12+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong financial statement preparation and month‑end close experience Experience supervising accounting staff Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting Strong Excel and analytical skills Preferred Experience within wholesale distribution, consumer products, manufacturing, or inventory‑intensive environments Inventory accounting experience Experience with AS/400 or similar ERP systems Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands‑on Controller who enjoys being close to the business, understands the operational nuances of a distribution environment, and can translate financial data into meaningful business insights.
