Position: Senior Industrial Hygienist/Safety Specialist
Location: Washington, DC (Onsite, FEMA Headquarters)
Contract: 2-Year Contract

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist/Safety Specialist to provide onsite occupational safety and industrial hygiene support at FEMA Headquarters. This role requires a professional with hands-on experience in workplace exposure assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), incident investigations, OSHA compliance, and safety program support. The ideal candidate can translate technical findings into practical risk-control recommendations and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance
Manage OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 recordkeeping.
Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and trend reviews.
Support safety audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking.
Assist with development and updates of safety policies, SOPs, and program documentation.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, FEMA policies, and federal safety requirements.

Industrial Hygiene
Conduct workplace exposure assessments, hazard evaluations, walkthrough surveys, and basic air/noise monitoring.
Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for routine and non-routine work activities.
Identify workplace hazards, exposure pathways, required controls, and PPE requirements.
Provide risk-control recommendations and support PPE evaluations.

Program Support & Reporting
Prepare reports, SOPs, policy updates, memoranda, and briefing materials.
Maintain organized records for incidents, inspections, training, and IH documentation.
Coordinate with FEMA leadership, contractors, and stakeholders to support safety initiatives.
Analyze safety and industrial hygiene data to support continuous program improvement.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related STEM field.
6+ years of industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or EHS experience.
Demonstrated experience conducting workplace exposure assessments and developing JHAs.
Working knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping and incident investigation processes.
Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
Ability to work onsite and interact effectively with federal personnel.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting federal facilities or agencies.
Experience developing SOPs, safety manuals, or policy documents.
Familiarity with administrative-focused occupational safety and health programs.
