The Division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators and bedding; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and parks. The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage and minor labor law programs. Review construction documents submitted for new construction, alteration, addition, & change of occupancy of all state-owned buildings, college & university buildings, & commercial & residential buildings not under jurisdiction of local certified building departments, for compliance with relevant provisions of the Ohio Building Code (OBC), Ohio Revised Code (ORC), & other applicable codes, rules, & standards, etc. Plan review items including, but not limited to, site plans, building height & area limitations, building foundation, structural loads, building wall, floor, & roof/ceiling assemblies & their required fire ratings, means of egress, electrical system, mechanical system, fire protection systems, required number of plumbing fixtures, elevator & conveying systems, & accessibility requirements, etc. Conducts meetings with owners, contractors, architects, engineers & other involved parties to review, clarify & resolve problems associated with codes & differences in opinions Prepares & submits daily work report; maintains office files; keeps abreast of code revisions & latest developments in engineering & architectural fields, material products, evaluation criteria & research reports Certificate to practice architecture per Section 4703.06 of Revised Code or certificate of registration as professional engineer per Section 4733.02 of Revised Code.
