Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct inpatient nursing care for adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown patients with a wide range of diagnoses including cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, trauma (MVA, GSW, falls), various cancers, bowel obstruction, peripheral vascular disease, and more
• Support and monitor patients undergoing or recovering from inpatient surgical procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation or closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, amputations, and fem-pop bypass
• Manage and maintain specialty equipment including wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes/Corpak, JP drains, hemovac drains, and Penrose drains
• Document accurately using EPIC , administer medications via Pyxis , and communicate using the SBAR framework
• Float to other units as needed and work every other weekend as required
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and expected to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit reassignment mid-contract is possible

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license (pending licensure considered for submittal)
• BLS certification required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical or Surgical nursing experience required; first-time travelers with strong experience will be considered
• Comfort with a patient ratio of 1:6 in a surgical/medical inpatient setting
• Local candidates (within 50 miles of the facility) are welcome; a local rate will apply

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with surgical stepdown or combination acuity units
• Familiarity with trauma patient populations and post-operative care
• Prior experience with wound vac management, chest tube care, and drain management
• Openness to floating within or near the facility as needed
