Supervisor, Parts Dept. and Finish Prep

Description

We are seeking an experienced Parts Dept. and Finish Prep Supervisor to lead our fabrication and finish preparation team. This position oversees the production of custom metal components for the lighting and site furniture industry, ensuring quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery of parts moving through fabrication, welding, and powder coating operations.

The ideal candidate will have previous supervisory experience, a strong background in sheet metal fabrication, and the ability to effectively coordinate workflow across multiple departments.
Essential Responsibilities

Supervise and lead a team of 4+ employees within the Parts and Finish Prep Department.
Manage daily workflow involving:
- Fiber optic laser cutting
- CNC press brake forming
- CNC saw operations
- CNC tube and bar bending
- Stud welding
- CNC router cutting of wood, composite, and acrylic materials
- Deburring, sanding, brushing, and finish preparation
Ensure parts are properly prepared and routed to welding and powder coating departments.
Coordinate with production, welding, and finishing teams to maintain project schedules and workflow.
Conduct quality inspections on completed and in-process parts.
Maintain and enforce department quality control procedures.
Oversee completion and submission of department documentation, including:
- Parts handoff sheets
- Quality control reports
Manage inventory of raw materials and fabrication consumables, including:
- Sheet metal
- Tubing and flat stock
- Acrylic materials
- Wood and composite materials
- Specialty materials
- Machine consumables such as laser nozzles, tips, router bits, and blades
Establish performance expectations and maintain accountability for department staff.
Ensure employees complete required daily, weekly, and monthly equipment maintenance.
Attend daily fabrication and production meetings.
Work closely with the Fabrication Manager and General Manager to prioritize workloads and staffing needs.
Learn and operate departmental equipment to provide support and coverage when necessary.

Qualifications

Previous supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Sheet metal fabrication experience required.
Working knowledge of metal cutting, bending, and forming processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and production documents.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and production goals.
Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with CNC fabrication equipment.
Experience in quality control and inspection processes.
Inventory management experience.
Experience supporting custom manufacturing or fabrication operations.
