We are looking for a Financial Analyst to support financial planning, reporting, and operational analysis for a retail technology organization in San Francisco, California. This Long-term Contract position will partner closely with project, engineering, product, and business leaders to provide insight into spending, budgeting, and forecast performance across key technology initiatives. The role is well suited for a finance specialist who can translate complex data into practical recommendations, improve reporting accuracy, and help guide investment decisions across capital and operating budgets. This role required 4 days onsite.

Responsibilities:

• Drive monthly financial close activities for assigned technology functions, including accrual preparation, variance review, and reporting of actual results against plan.

• Build and maintain forecasts and budgets for technology programs, with particular attention to digital commerce, marketing, software, hardware, and other operational spending areas.

• Review historical and current project costs to identify spending trends, surface potential overruns or savings opportunities, and flag financial risks early in the project lifecycle.

• Oversee contract-related financial tracking by maintaining agreement records, supporting renewal planning, and reflecting commitments accurately in monthly, quarterly, and annual outlooks.

• Administer complex cost allocation activities and explain the budget impact of shared expenses and contractual commitments to business and store leadership teams.

• Support planning for contract labor expenses, including coordination of resource setup and time-reporting alignment so capitalizable project work is recorded correctly.

• Advise project stakeholders on the appropriate treatment of costs as capital or operating expense in accordance with internal policy and financial reporting guidance.

• Prepare non-payroll operating budget inputs for assigned areas, validate project cost assumptions, and enter forecast and budget data into planning tools such as Essbase.

• Identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes, reduce manual effort, and enhance financial analysis through better use of systems, automation, and available data tools.

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience supporting financial planning, analysis, and systems-driven budgeting in a complex multi-unit organization.
• Strong capability in financial analysis, financial modeling, ad hoc reporting, and variance investigation.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formula-based analysis, with the ability to present findings clearly in PowerPoint.
• Experience working with enterprise budgeting or accounting platforms and multidimensional planning tools; Hyperion Essbase experience is strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of financial reporting principles and the treatment of capital versus operating expenditures.
• Background analyzing capital projects, including investment evaluation and cost structure considerations such as lease-versus-buy decisions.
• Familiarity with tools such as Oracle Cloud, Essbase, or Power BI is a plus, as is exposure to lease or store construction financial concepts.
