Job Overview The General Manager (GM) is the clear link between the Bloomingdale's brand vision and how it comes to life in the store. The GM is a local business owner with a shopkeeper mindset responsible for making things happen, effectively driving business priorities to achieve financial results in the respective Store. The GM recognizes the changing market dynamics and will lead by example, dreams big, is intellectually curious and skilled at influencing others. The GM is a floor‑present leader who is responsible for leading and developing the Stores' teams. The GM sets the standard for an outstanding customer experience with a customer first, always mindset and drives the engagement of our colleagues. Essential Functions Entrepreneurial mindset – The GM has the mindset of an entrepreneur and creative thinker, drives business at the local level, demonstrates strong business acumen and a point of view about how to grow the business. Uses data and intuition fluently to support decisions and works collaboratively with partners to drive the store forward. Customer focus – The GM focuses on the customer, champions an omnichannel business model, and levels up understanding of customer needs. Encourages and actively participates in customer discovery that yields conversion and relationships. Delivers strategies for elevated and differentiated services and experiences. Strong influencing and relationship building skills – both internally and externally with the vendor community (e.g., concessions) and in the community. Proactively partners cross‑functionally to drive the store's business and acts as a brand ambassador to represent Bloomingdale's locally. Strong appreciation for merchandising / product – Must articulate and substantiate market needs and partner with merchants to strategize the product mix. Chief talent manager – Owns people management, motivates teams, sets clear expectations with accountability, coaches and develops talent, and grooms future store leaders. Command and inspirational floor‑present leadership – Communicates with clarity, engages customers and colleagues, influences customer love and colleague belief, leads through empowerment, and serves as a culture creator. Functional proficiency – Demonstrates foundation of operational excellence, manages P&L, capitalizes on key business opportunities, delivers on key performance indicators, and maintains a high say‑do ratio. Agility and prioritization – Can juggle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, communicate effectively, monitor workflow, and make quick decisions to support multifaceted retail strategies. Qualifications and Competencies Bachelor’s Degree from a 4‑year college or university. 5+ years direct experience in a retail environment. Flexible schedule with retail hours, including day, evening, weekends, and holidays. Essential Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing/walking around the store. Reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and color vision required. Frequent use of computers, handheld equipment, and cash registers. Frequent lift/move of up to 25 lbs.
