Step into a fulfilling opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. Working across multiple campuses, you’ll support learners who are visually impaired, helping them gain independence and confidence through education tailored to their unique needs. This is an on-site, full-time contract role with a dedicated caseload of 12 students receiving direct services, in addition to consultative support for others. Your expertise in Braille instruction will be essential as you guide students ranging from elementary through high school.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments across five schools within the district
- Provide approximately 690 service minutes per week, ensuring individualized educational plans are met
- Conduct consultative services for students and staff as assigned
- Collaborate with educational teams to create and adapt accessible curriculum materials
- Utilize and teach Braille to students who require it
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student goals
- Ensure accurate progress monitoring, reporting, and documentation
- Travel between campuses may be necessary, based on student and district needs
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Valid Florida Department of Education Teacher for the Visually Impaired certification (TVI)
- Experience teaching students who are blind or visually impaired, including Braille literacy
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication, organization, and adaptability skills
- Successful completion of district fingerprinting (prior AHCA Clearinghouse prints may be transferable)
