Step into a vital, rewarding role supporting students with visual impairments while working across five diverse school sites near Port Saint Lucie, FL. As a specialist educator, you’ll collaborate with students, families, and staff to foster independence and maximize learning for learners ages preschool through high school. This is a full-time contract position, starting in October and continuing through early June of the following year, with 35 hours per week allocated to direct teaching and consultative support.

Ideal candidates possess:

• Active Florida Department of Education certification for Teachers of the Visually Impaired
• Proficiency in Braille instruction, adapting academic materials, and accessibility tools
• Previous experience teaching or supporting visually impaired students in school settings
• Strong organizational skills to effectively manage caseloads across multiple sites
• Ability to obtain district-required fingerprint clearance (previous AHCA prints may apply)

As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in this role, you will:

• Deliver personalized instruction and support to approximately 12 direct students, totaling 690 service minutes each week
• Provide consultative assistance to staff and engage with parents to ensure student success
• Travel between assigned campuses within the district, adapting lessons to meet diverse learner needs
• Assess and document student progress, develop IEP goals, and participate in school team meetings
• Teach Braille and assistive technology with a focus on fostering student independence
