About the Opportunity
A well-established industrial manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support approximately 400 employees across multiple Southern California facilities. This is a highly visible leadership role reporting directly to executive leadership and serving as the primary HR business partner for plant operations, managers, and employees.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background supporting manufacturing, production, construction materials, distribution, or other industrial environments and be comfortable balancing employee relations, compliance, recruiting, leave administration, and workforce development across both hourly and salaried populations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR partner for manufacturing and plant leadership
- Lead employee relations, investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management
- Support both union and non-union workforces
- Ensure compliance with California employment laws and HR regulations
- Manage leave administration including FMLA, CFRA, ADA accommodations, PFL, and related programs
- Oversee workers' compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and partner closely with Safety
- Coordinate recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and new hire orientation
- Maintain employee handbook, HR policies, and company procedures
- Partner with outside employment counsel on labor and compliance matters
- Administer employee benefits, open enrollment, and annual renewals
- Guide supervisors and managers through disciplinary actions and coaching conversations
- Ensure all employment practices remain compliant with federal, state, and local regulations
- Support multiple manufacturing locations with occasional local travel
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Human Resources experience
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, production, distribution, or construction environments
- Strong employee relations and leadership coaching experience
- Working knowledge of California employment laws and HR compliance
- Experience managing leave administration and workers' compensation
- Experience supporting hourly workforces
- Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience supporting union and non-union manufacturing facilities
- Multi-site HR leadership experience
- Experience partnering directly with plant managers and operations leadership
