The Adams County Health Department (ACHD) Nursing Division is comprised of Nurse Family Partnership, Nurse Support Program, Harm Reduction, Sexual Health, Immunizations, Child Maltreatment and Fatality Prevention, and Care Coordinator for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. The Nursing Division is made up of clinical support staff, medical assistants, harm reduction specialists, operations support, nurses, advanced practice nurses, and midwives. As a Public Health Nurse II on the Sexual Health Program team you'll work closely with our Nurse Practitioner to deliver comprehensive sexual health services including contraception, STI testing, treatment, and education. You'll have the opportunity to independently screen and test clients for STIs, administer prescribed medications, and provide vital post-examination education. Key responsibilities include triaging clients, offering guidance on contraception effectiveness and usage, and educating on STI risk factors and prevention. Examples of duties for success include administering or dispensing medication prescribed by a Nurse Practitioner, performing appropriate testing in the clinic including pregnancy testing, HIV, Hepatitis C, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, providing post examination education to clients, triaging client for STI infections and issues with contraception, providing education related to effectiveness of contraception, side effects and appropriate use, providing education related to Sexually Transmitted Infection, risk factors and prevention, following up on referrals, providing test results and appropriate education, performing Quality Assurance tasks as assigned, providing safe, effective, evidence-based patient care, performing direct patient care during home visits, clinic visits, or at outdoor community clinics, fairs, and outreach events, maintaining specialty practice within nursing and public health, promoting and protecting the health of populations using knowledge from nursing, social, and public health sciences, collaborating with team members to provide resources and care/treatment options within the patient care setting, maintaining working knowledge of agency-wide services and providing appropriate agency-wide referrals as necessary, maintaining up to date knowledge and performing safe medication and medical supply use, storage, and handling, serving as a liaison or lead at a clinic or off-site community event, applying agency policy and procedures to resolve a variety of issues, conducting various diagnostic tests, needs assessment interviews, medical histories, and vital measurements to determine appropriate health care measures or coordination of care, program operations, attaining knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice, proficiently documenting patient cases and complying with timely documentation standard for patients and employees, regularly attending and actively participating in team meetings, assisting in conducting epidemiological investigations related to disease control and infectious diseases, developing and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, communicating effectively in various formats in all areas of practice, guiding professional nursing staff and paraprofessional employees who provide public health nursing services, participating in planning and implementation of public health nursing programs for communities, families, and individuals; and performing related work as required, community outreach, developing community-specific solutions to address prevention priorities, collaborating with community members, such as school personnel, childcare, and providers to form partnerships and relationships that improve community health outcomes, representing Adams County as a health strategist in the community, collaborating with related community agencies and service providers through client referrals, written and verbal communications, and case/team conferences, participating in the development of community planning, organization, education, and promotion of public health services through community outreach efforts, including serving on community boards and committees and presenting public health education to individuals and community groups.

More qualifications for success include experience, education, and training: requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from a school accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the American Association of Colleges of Nursing AND a minimum of 3 years professional nursing experience, preferably in the area of public health nursing OR requires a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from a school accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the American Association of Colleges of Nursing AND a minimum of 5 years professional nursing experience, preferably in the area of public health nursing. License or Certificate: must have active Colorado Nursing license, must possess a current BLS certification, possession of a valid driver's license and access to dependable transportation for business purposes as needed. Background Check: must pass a criminal background check. Other: must be proficient in use of on-line meeting platforms and Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Flexibility in work hours may be required to accommodate community events, meeting, and outreach activities. Travel within the community and participation in evening and weekend duties required. Spanish speaking ability is preferred. ACHD has a policy to provide additional compensation for employees who can demonstrate bilingual language skills.
