Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant – Product Liability Defense Litigation

A globally recognized law firm with 45 offices worldwide is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary/Legal Assistant to support its Product Liability Defense Litigation Practice Group . This position supports a team of 5–7 attorneys based in the San Francisco office and offers a collaborative, fast-paced environment with excellent long-term stability and benefits.

Work Arrangement

• Fully remote for candidates located more than 2 hours from Los Angeles or San Francisco.
• Hybrid (1–2 days per week in-office) for candidates located within 2 hours of either office.

Compensation

• Los Angeles: $75,000–$95,000
• San Francisco Bay Area: $85,000–$105,000

Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and skills.

What Makes This Desk Manageable?

Although you will support 5–7 attorneys, the firm has extensive administrative resources in place:

• Dedicated docketing team handles calendaring deadlines.
• Word Processing Department prepares document shells and formatting assistance.
• Services team manages copying and production tasks.
• Most attorneys enter their own time.
• Legal Secretaries are not responsible for billing.

Responsibilities

• Draft, revise, and format legal documents, correspondence, memoranda, and emails.
• Prepare expense reports, check requests, client invoices, and time entries as requested.
• File documents electronically in California state and federal courts.
• Maintain and organize client and case files.
• Manage attorney calendars, appointments, and scheduling.
• Coordinate meetings, travel arrangements, and conferences.
• Communicate with clients and respond to inquiries.
• Handle general administrative duties, including filing, mailing, and phone coverage.
• Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and staff.
• Maintain proficiency with firm technology and procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
• 3+ years of defense litigation experience as a Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant, or Paralegal.
• Product Liability Defense experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with general defense litigation, insurance defense, or lemon law defense is welcome.
• Plaintiff-side litigation experience will not be considered.
• Strong experience with iManage is required.
• Solid California state and federal court e-filing experience.
• Experience working in a medium-to-large law firm environment preferred.
• Ability to manage a busy desk, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently.
• Typing speed of 50–60 WPM.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
