Course Grader Mentor – Geoscience (Work Study and Non‑Work Study) Position Details Hiring Department: OnRamps Position Open To: All Applicants Weekly Scheduled Hours: Up to 15 FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Earliest Start Date: Immediately Position Duration: Until Dec 31, 2026 Location: Austin, TX (Remote in Austin area) Job Details Supervisor: Jessica Fowler Neal Work‑Study Pay: New OnRamps student $14.50/h; Returning student $15.50/h; Returning with professional development $16.00/h Schedule to be determined with supervisor; up to 15 hours weekly Purpose The Geoscience Course Grader Mentor supports the OnRamps Geoscience Earth, Wind, and Fire course (GEO 302E). The mentor works closely with the Geoscience Course Manager to manage the grading team, mentor student graders, calibrate grading, ensure timely grading and feedback of student assessments, and perform related clerical work. Responsibilities Maintain accuracy and consistency while grading and providing feedback on course assignments and assessments in Canvas Learning Management System. Facilitate grading team meetings and grading calibrations to ensure consistency across the grading team. Collaborate with the Geoscience Course Manager to monitor grading progress and ensure timely feedback on student work. Attend calibration meetings and participate in training to align feedback and deepen transferrable skills. Assist with seasonal and urgent projects that align to the OnRamps mission. Required Qualifications Current graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Geoscience. Intermediate computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Canvas LMS. Recommendation from at least one professional or academic reference. Punctual, reliable, responsible, self‑motivated. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Interest in and knowledge of local, state, and national dual‑enrollment and college‑readiness initiatives. Expert computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Learning Catalytics, MS Outlook, and/or Smartsheet. Recommendation from more than one professional or academic reference. Salary $14.50 to $16.00 hourly depending on experience and professional development status. Working Conditions Work may be performed in a standard office environment or remotely. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation is expected. Use of manual dexterity required.
