Job Description

This role focuses on assembling subcomponents and finished products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You use hand tools, power tools, and an overhead crane to build metal assemblies while following assembly drawings and schematics. The position requires consistent attention to detail, comfort with repetitive lifting, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assemble subcomponents and finished products using established processes and work instructions.
• Operate various hand and power tools to build units and related assemblies.
• Use an overhead crane to move and position larger units safely and accurately.
• Review assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics to determine required parts, quantities, and proper placement.
• Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to ensure correct dimensions and fit.
• Lift and fit components weighing 60 pounds or more to assemble products.
• Perform repetitive lifting of plates, including overhead lifting when operating the stacker machine.
• Work with one team member to fulfill daily product orders and meet production targets.
• Stand, walk, climb, and extend arms for extended periods while performing assembly tasks.
• Use hands frequently to operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment required for assembly.
• Follow 5S and safety practices to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Essential Skills

• Experience with assembly work in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for metal assembly.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
• Proficiency using a tape measure for accurate measurements.
• Ability to operate an overhead crane or willingness to train on overhead crane operation.
• Comfort with repetitive lifting, including lifting 50 pounds or more (40 pounds independently) and up to 60 pounds+ when fitting product together.
• Ability to perform regular lifting, climbing, standing, walking, sitting, and reaching for extended periods.
• Capability to use hands frequently to operate hand tools, power tools, and related equipment.
• High school diploma or GED required by the time of permanent conversion, with flexibility to obtain it while on contract.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with metal components and assemblies.
• Experience building or assembling heat exchangers or similar industrial equipment.
• Familiarity with 5S practices and working in a structured, organized production environment.
• Willingness to participate in a structured training program with a dedicated trainer.
• Interest in growing into a unit builder role and developing additional technical skills.
• Motivation to complete a GED program if not already obtained, supported by a company-funded initiative upon direct hire.

Work Environment

The role operates on multiple shifts within a large, clean, and well-organized manufacturing floor. The facility is climate-controlled, with clearly labeled sections based on materials and production areas to support efficient workflow and 5S standards. You work on your feet for extended periods, performing lifting, climbing, standing, walking, and reaching while operating hand tools, power tools, and overhead cranes. The environment is fast paced yet structured, with an onsite cafeteria and a strong focus on cleanliness, organization, and safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
