Position Overview Family of Woodstock is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Development & Communications to expand the agency’s reach, increase public awareness of its programs and services, and support its fundraising and development efforts. This position will lead efforts to tell Family’s story, engage donors and funding partners, coordinate fundraising events, assist with grant writing, and oversee public relations, communications, and media efforts. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and communicator who can work independently, manage multiple projects, and translate the impact of a complex nonprofit organization into compelling communications. Responsibilities and Duties Public Relations Develop and implement a comprehensive public relations and communications strategy. Increase public awareness and understanding of Family’s programs, services, and impact. Strengthen connections with the local business community and develop opportunities for corporate support. Create and coordinate outreach, promotional, and communications materials for the agency and its programs. Manage Family of Woodstock’s primary social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Maintain and update the agency website, including news, blog content, and program information. Write and distribute press releases and other media communications. Develop compelling written and digital content that communicates Family’s mission, accomplishments, and community impact. Work with local media and community partners to increase visibility for the agency. Development & Fundraising Research and identify new funding opportunities and prospective funding partners. Expand the agency’s funding base through prospect research, outreach, and support for funding applications. Assist with grant proposals, reports, and other funding materials. Cultivate and strengthen connections with individual, corporate, and institutional donors. Develop strategies to increase contributions from existing donors and grow Family’s donor base. Coordinate and support fundraising events, including planning, promotion, sponsorship outreach, and follow-up. Work with the Executive Director and agency leaders to identify and pursue development opportunities Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, strategic communications, philanthropic studies, nonprofit management, or a related field. 3–5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting, with a background in communications, public relations, development, and/or grant writing. Exceptional written communication skills; writing samples may be requested. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Advanced knowledge of social media communications, digital marketing, and online engagement. Ability to develop communications or marketing strategies and manage multiple channels. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Ability to work effectively with staff, donors, businesses, media representatives, community partners, and other stakeholders. Commitment to mission and values of Family of Woodstock. Hours and Pay Rate This is a full-time position based in Kingston, NY reporting directly to the Executive Director. The pay rate is $41,200 per year.
