Associate Attorney (Workers' Compensation)Location: California (90% Remote, 10% In-Office) Offices: Orange County, Los Angeles, Westlake Village, Ontario, San Diego, Sacramento, Oakland, Redding, San Jose, FresnoOverview: We are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Associate Attorney to represent insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers in all phases of workers' compensation defense. This role offers a primarily remote work environment with occasional in-office presence across multiple California locations.Our team is committed to aggressively safeguarding the interests of employers and insurers while navigating the complexities of workers' compensation claims with precision and expertise. We take a client-centric approach, prioritizing clear communication and ensuring clients remain informed and empowered throughout the legal process. Attorneys are expected to deliver strategic, tailored defense solutions that minimize liability, protect client interests, and provide cost-effective results without compromising quality.Key Responsibilities:Represent and advocate on behalf of insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employersProvide strategic legal guidance and maintain consistent client communication throughout each caseDraft pleadings, motions, and other legal documentsAttend court appearances, hearings, and depositionsConduct depositions and cross-examinations of medical professionals and other witnessesNegotiate settlements on workers' compensation files and lien claimsManage a full caseload proactively from inception through resolutionMentor and oversee legal assistantsBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and vendorsParticipate in client development and marketing eventsTrack billable time and maintain case records in billing software and PracticeMasterAttend client file reviews and present case strategiesConduct training seminars on evolving workers' compensation lawsStay current on applicable case law and statutesPerform additional duties as neededPractice Areas Include:Presumption claimsEducation Code mattersCatastrophic injury claimsIndustrial disability retirementWorkers' compensation fraud investigationsLien resolution and walk-throughsQualifications:Minimum of 2+ years of Workers' Compensation experienceActive license to practice law in CaliforniaExperience representing employers, carriers, or insurers strongly preferredStrong writing, communication, and advocacy skillsAbility to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectivelyCompensation: Salary is commensurate with experience:2–4 years: $140,000 – $180,0005–7 years: ~$200,0007–10 years: ~$210,00010+ years: ~$220,000 (up to $230,000 for consistent high billable performance)EOE: We are an equal opportunity employer and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
