Position Title and Department Coadjutant Non-Teaching – Biomedical Engineering Position Summary Dr. Tutwiler’s lab seeks a highly motivated research associate to study the biomechanics of blood clots in health and disease. The project focuses on mechanical properties of blood clots—including clot contraction, rupture resistance, and embolization potential—to better understand thrombotic disorders such as venous thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, and bleeding disorders. Responsibilities Conduct experiments to characterize mechanical properties of blood clots, perform imaging and clot assays, analyze data, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to translational research efforts. Salary and Benefits Salary: $20,000. Qualifications PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Hematology, Biophysics, or a related field. Prior experience in blood biomechanics, thrombosis, or coagulation research. Proficiency in imaging, clot assays, and quantitative analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Collaborative mindset and drive to pursue impactful, translational research. 1–2 years working in electron microscopy or X-ray crystallography and data processing related to protein structural analysis/modeling. Expertise in hemostasis and thrombosis. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team; self‑motivated, adaptable, and maintains a positive attitude. Ability to learn new concepts quickly, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with institutional policies. Physical Demands and Work Environment Must be able to work in a laboratory, perform laboratory research, stand, reach, and lift.
