Sr. Scientific Data Engineer, R&D Data Platform
Abbott Laboratories
Abbott Cancer Diagnostics seeks a senior scientific data engineer to design and deliver data platform solutions for cancer research and diagnostic development. The role involves building Python-based tools, pipelines, and workflows to help researchers manage genomic, clinical, and experimental data across heterogeneous sources. The engineer will partner with scientists and technical teams to establish data standards, implement validation frameworks, and support end-to-end platform capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver reusable tools for ingesting, validating, transforming, and sharing scientific data
- Own platform capability areas end-to-end including design, implementation, and operational support
- Develop Python and SQL solutions including packages, pipelines, APIs, and internal applications
- Partner with scientific teams to understand workflows and translate needs into technical roadmaps
- Establish data organization standards and harmonization patterns across disparate sources
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, or related quantitative field
- 5+ years professional experience or 3+ years with advanced degree in relevant field
- Advanced Python programming skills
- Strong SQL skills with structured and semi-structured data
- Track record building reusable, maintainable software for others
- Experience designing data pipelines, Python packages, APIs, or analytical workflows
- Understanding of scientific research processes and data analysis
