Principal Data Scientist

AbbVie seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead omnichannel engagement analytics within the APEX Enterprise Advanced Analytics team. This senior technical role owns the multi-year data science vision, shapes AI investment strategy, and delivers production-scale machine learning and generative AI solutions that drive measurable commercial impact.
Responsibilities
- Define multi-year data science vision and technical roadmap for omnichannel engagement analytics
- Identify, size, and prioritize AI opportunities; build business cases and influence investment decisions
- Lead hands-on development of LLM-backed systems, recommendation engines, and decision models
- Own measurement science and establish standards for evaluating AI effectiveness and business impact
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business challenges into technical solutions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or quantitative discipline
- 8+ years data science, machine learning, or applied science experience (or 6+ with PhD)
- Proven track record delivering production-quality models with measurable business impact
- Deep expertise in causal inference, experimentation, A/B testing, and quasi-experimental methods
- Hands-on experience with generative AI, LLM APIs, and AI-assisted development tools
- Experience building personalization, recommendation, or marketing-science solutions
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and influence senior leadership decisions
