We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to join a growing import/export organization in Covington, Louisiana. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who enjoys keeping financial records accurate, supporting day-to-day accounting activity, and contributing to a collaborative office environment. Responsibilities: • Maintain organized financial and administrative records while providing day-to-day clerical support to the accounting function. • Prepare and record journal entries accurately in the general ledger to support routine accounting operations. • Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies to help ensure balances are complete and correct. • Compile recurring financial reports and distribute them to the appropriate team members on a monthly basis. • Assist with accounts payable activities, including coding invoices and supporting timely processing workflows. • Perform bank reconciliations and verify transactions against internal records to maintain accuracy. • Use Excel and other Microsoft Office applications to track information, prepare documentation, and support reporting needs. • Take on additional accounting or administrative assignments as business needs evolve. • At least 1 year of hands-on accounting experience in a clerical or assistant-level capacity. • Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliation, and basic general ledger activity. • Experience supporting accounts payable processes, including invoice coding and payment-related documentation. • Ability to complete bank reconciliations and identify discrepancies with strong attention to detail. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for reporting, tracking, and data entry tasks. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally across teams. • Reliable organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.
