Mechanical Estimator

CJ Industries, LLC is a Kansas City-based mechanical contractor specializing in commercial and industrial plumbing and piping. We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator who wants to grow with us. This isn't a position where you'll simply turn out estimates and hand them off. Our estimator is an important part of deciding which projects we pursue, how we approach them, and how we set our project teams up for success. What You'll Do As a Mechanical Estimator, you'll work closely with our leadership, project management, and operations teams to develop accurate, competitive estimates and help us pursue the right opportunities. Your responsibilities will include: Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements. Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for plumbing, piping, and mechanical scopes. Prepare estimates from conceptual budgets through final bids. Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing. Develop complete bid scopes, including exclusions, clarifications, allowances, and potential risks. Make sure estimates account for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project-specific requirements. Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when needed. Work with our operations and project management teams to develop project approach and bid strategy. Participate in turnover meetings when projects are awarded. Maintain strong relationships with general contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and industry partners. Use historical project information to help improve the accuracy of future estimates. Help identify and evaluate new opportunities that are a good fit for CJ Industries. What We're Looking For We aren't just looking for someone who knows how to do a takeoff. We're looking for someone who understands how the work actually gets built. Our ideal candidate has: Experience estimating commercial and/or industrial mechanical construction. Strong knowledge of plumbing and piping systems, materials, installation methods, and construction practices. The ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and contract documents. A solid understanding of labor productivity, material pricing, equipment costs, and subcontractor scopes. Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the overall project. The ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines. Good communication skills and a willingness to work with both our field and office teams. Experience with estimating and construction software. Mechanical trade or field experience is a big plus . HVAC estimating experience is also a plus. Who Fits at CJ We're a hands-on company, and we value people who take ownership of what they do.
