Primary Job Function:

This position offers flexible, as-needed work when permanent Food Service staff members are absent. Responsibilities include setting up serving lines, maintaining the dish room, and helping ensure order in the lunchroom. The employee will follow the lunchroom expectations established by the principal and Food Service Manager at each school. Any concerns should be reported to the Food Service Manager, who will follow up with the principal as needed. The employee is expected to follow all lunchroom rules and work cooperatively as a member of the Food Service Team.

Qualifications:

• Must be able to work in crowded environments with increased noise levels.
• Must have a positive, fun-loving disposition and interact well with students.
• Must be willing and able to work at different schools as needed.
• Must complete a 10-hour sanitation course after being hired.
• Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Must be organized and able to plan the workday for maximum productivity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Stock silverware, napkins, condiments, and other supplies as needed.
• Place trash bags in receptacles and position them for meal service.
• Assist students in the cafeteria during meal periods.
• Clean and sanitize cafeteria tables.
• Assist with setting up, stocking, and monitoring serving lines as needed.
• Set up the dish room and prepare sanitation supplies for cafeteria staff.
• Work in the dish room between and after meal periods.
• Clean and sanitize the dish room and dish machine at the end of each workday.
• Assist with receiving, storing, labeling, dating, and rotating stock using the FIFO method.
• Complete the required 10-hour sanitation course after being hired.
• Complete all annually required USDA Professional Standards training hours.
• Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
• Maintain positive working relationships with Food Service staff, school staff, and other departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Safety and Sanitation:

• Report all equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Food Service Manager or supervisor.
• Assist with the general cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen and cafeteria areas.
• Clean and sanitize cafeteria tables.
• Ensure the dish room and dish machine are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at the end of each workday.
• Sweep and mop kitchen floors.
• Empty trash receptacles between meal periods, and clean and sanitize trash cans as needed.
• Complete daily and weekly inspections of kitchen conditions to help maintain high standards of sanitation and safety.
• Perform all duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of employees, students, and others.

The employee must be able to work and stand up to 6 hours. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, as to operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally is required to lift up to 50 pounds such as boxes of books and paper materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
