We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Phlebotomist II to support specimen collection and processing activities in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This role is responsible for performing venipunctures, specimen handling, patient identification, and laboratory support functions while delivering excellent customer service and ensuring specimen integrity. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working with a diverse patient population while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and professionalism.

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using straight needles, butterfly needles, and other approved collection methods.
• Accurately identify patients and verify test orders prior to specimen collection.
• Explain collection procedures to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
• Label, process, centrifuge, aliquot, store, and prepare specimens according to established procedures.
• Ensure specimens are collected, handled, and transported in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Verify laboratory requisitions, patient information, and specimen labeling to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transportation and maintain proper storage temperatures when required.
• Perform routine maintenance and documentation for laboratory equipment, including centrifuges and related devices.
• Document patient information, collection activities, and specimen data within electronic systems.
• Respond to patient, provider, and laboratory inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
• Assist in training and supporting new team members as assigned.
• Identify workflow improvement opportunities and communicate recommendations to leadership.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, safety, and infection-control requirements.
• Participate in required department training and competency assessments.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures in a healthcare, laboratory, physician office, clinic, hospital, blood donation center, or similar patient-care environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
• Basic computer and data-entry skills.
• Ability to multitask and manage priorities effectively.

• Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, NCCT, or equivalent) if required by state regulations.
• Previous experience in a patient service center, reference laboratory, hospital, clinic, blood bank, or diagnostic testing environment.
• Experience processing specimens, centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen packaging.
• Experience training or mentoring new employees.
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical record systems.
• Knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory compliance standards.

This position works in a patient-facing healthcare setting and requires frequent interaction with patients, providers, and laboratory staff. The role involves standing, walking, and performing specimen collections throughout the shift while maintaining a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and patient care. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating workloads and priorities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
