Acute Inpatient Registered Nurse - RN - Dialysis

Purpose and Scope Registered Nurse (RN) InpatientCAP2 is an entry‑level designation in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) for new employees who meet the RNCAP2 criteria or who have advanced from CAP1. This position is accountable for providing coordinated, clinically competent care—including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation—for an assigned group of patients. The RN may delegate tasks to direct‑care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians). As a member of the kidney disease health‑care team, the RN participates in decision‑making, teaching, leadership, and quality‑improvement activities that enhance patient‑care outcomes and program operations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Perform all essential nursing functions under the direction of the Supervisor and in collaboration with the Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurse. Collect and analyze patient data pre‑, during‑, and post‑treatment, document in the medical record, and adjust treatment plans as needed, notifying the Supervisor, physician, primary nurse, or other stakeholders. Assess and document basic learning needs of patients and families and provide initial and ongoing education. Identify deviations from normal patient status, report and collaborate with appropriate health‑team members (Supervisor, physician, facility staff). Direct and provide safe, effective patient care for assigned dialysis modalities. Assess daily patient‑care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary staff. Initiate and coordinate communication with FKC and non‑FKC dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to ensure continuity of care. Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions, including notification of adverse reactions. Administer medications as prescribed and document justification and effectiveness. Assist with emergency response measures. Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for new and incumbent employees. Provide specialized nursing instructions to hospital/facility staff as contractually stipulated. Assist in an outpatient facility on an as‑needed basis. Serve as a preceptor to new employees and complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance qualifications. Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor. Physical Demands and Working Conditions The position involves heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids or coworkers may provide assistance. Employees must stand for frequent, prolonged periods, bend over regularly, move machines and equipment up to 200lb, and lift chemical and water solutions up to 30lb as high as 5ft. The work environment is a health‑care facility with air‑temperature control and moderate noise levels. Employees may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. The role may require travel to training, meetings, or between assigned facilities and participation in an on‑call rotation (night, weekend, holiday) as defined by program needs. Employees are required to take the Ishihara Color‑Blindness test as a condition of employment. Supervision The RN is the designated Nurse in Charge and provides oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs after completing all FKC education, modality‑specific training, and six months of acute dialysis experience as an RN. Education and Licensure Current state RN licensure. Current or successful completion of CPR BLS certification. Must meet practice requirements in all states where employed. Experience and Required Skills Minimum of 2years of Nephrology Nursing experience as an RN in the last 2years. Acute dialysis experience (preferred).
