Engineer IV - Civil/Structural

Job Description

SUMMARY:

\n

The fourth level of Engineering. Provide civil-structural engineering and technical expertise and supervision to Transmission Substation engineering and design teams for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Provide civil-structural specific design and direction on complex engineering and technical challenges for the projects. This role includes both direct billable client work (project work) and project management support for projects. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline specific work for projects, perform responsible charge engineering duties, and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development, project cost estimating as well as supporting business development efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

\n

Under minimum supervision in the area of power delivery and structural engineering, the incumbent will provide:

\n

\n

· Experience and expertise in the identification, analysis, and resolution of engineering, technical and design problems.

\n

· Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.

\n

· Thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.

\n

· Continuous improvement of job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, process development, and performance.

\n

· Effective oral and written communication skills.

\n

· Should be able to understand and create substation civil-structural drawing packages (foundations, structural steel, bus and cable) utilizing national code, industry standards and best practices.

\n

· Champion the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally.

\n

· Interact with customer’s internal engineers and technical personnel on a day-to-day basis.

\n

· Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers.

\n

· Monitor deliverables, schedules, and present solutions to the client.

\n

· Perform other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

\n

Required A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in Civil Engineering .

\n

\n

Required Engineering Degree awarded from a College of University that is accredited by ABET.

\n

\n

Experience

\n

8+ Year(s) Experience as an Engineer with the electrical industry in the field of power delivery.

\n

\n

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

\n

Professional Engineering (PE) license.

\n

\n

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

\n
• Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings.
\n
• Ability to read, understand and create a civil engineering drawing package associated with the physical layout of a substation, specific to the creation of foundation and structure designs.
\n
• Create civil-structural project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation projects
\n
• Perform calculations for various foundation types including drilled piers, spread footers, and transformer pads
\n
• Design and procure transformer oil containment systems
\n
• Analyze new and existing steel (or wood) structures using modeling software
\n
• Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters
\n
• Collaborate with senior civil engineers to create best practices, quality assurance, and processes and procedures.
\n
• Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients
\n
• Visit sites, advise on civil and structural engineering issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction
\n
• Provide general project management capabilities to coordinate staff, assign tasks, and accomplish projects in an efficient manner
\n
• Assist the Project Manager in the preparation and review of proposals and contracts for the civil-structural scope
\n
• Support design needs for permitting activities
\n
• Manage budgets and project schedules
\n
• Think both creatively and logically to resolve design and construction issues
\n
• Experience working in a field or construction environment implementing or verifying engineering drawings.
\n
• Experience in the electric utility industry.
\n
