Academic Advisor II Posting Number: S14885P Working Title: Academic Advisor II Department: COE-Student Services Posting Type: External Retirement Plan TRS or ORP Employment Type: Employee Benefits Eligibility: Full/Part time: Full Time Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00-5:00pm Advertised Salary: Commensurate with Experience Posting Date: 03/17/2026 Closing Date: 04/04/2026 Proposed Starting Date: 05/11/2026 Position Summary The Academic Advisor II meets with an assigned caseload of approximately 200–250 students, provides accurate information about intended degree programs, offers course‐selection recommendations for upcoming semesters, generates electronic advising forms, and maintains detailed notes of each meeting. Advisors also assist students with referrals to departments, study abroad programs, tutoring, and other academic support services, and refer students to appropriate resources for non‑academic needs. They maintain consistent contact, record accurate electronic student files, and respond promptly to student inquiries. Minimum Qualifications bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and at least 2 years of professional experience Preferred Qualifications proficiency in student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Zoom strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills experience working with undergraduate students in a higher‑education setting demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships active listening and care for students’ well‑being Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Initiative to actively learn university and college degree requirements; interpret and communicate these requirements to students, faculty, and staff Organizational and time‑management skills; problem‑solving skills Comfort with learning digital student systems and platforms in addition to Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Zoom Work holistically with undergraduate students to enhance the university experience Establish and maintain effective working relationships Active listening Physical Demands Sit for extended periods of time No driving responsibilities Position of trust: Yes No access or control of financial resources No P‑Card required No direct interaction with children under 18 or patients Security access to personnel records and other sensitive data: Yes Duties / Responsibilities Works directly with intended Sport Management students as an academic advisor Develops and maintains knowledge of Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE) assigned majors and general MFE COE and UGA requirements and policies Helps students understand programs of study and comply with institutional requirements, policies, and procedures Advises prospective majors, intended majors, and declared majors via scheduled in‑person and Zoom appointments, drop‑in visits, emails, and phone calls Assists students in the selection of courses and other educational experiences Evaluates student progress toward established goals Assists students in decision‑making and career direction Assists students with academic difficulties and refers them to appropriate resources Displays care and concern for the well‑being of university students Actively seeks to improve processes and practices for supporting students Works with MFE COE program‑/department‑/major contacts, faculty, and staff of aligned units as directed by Co‑Director Serves as a liaison to assigned MFE COE academic department(s); assists program coordinators with curriculum issues in collaboration with Co‑Director Provides timely departmental updates to the Office of Undergraduate Advising Assists program coordinators in facilitating the application and admissions process for assigned majors, reviews application and admission processes with students, and refers them to the department or major as needed Attends advising meetings Works on projects assigned by supervisor (Co‑Director of the Office of Undergraduate Advising) such as advising resource updates, statistical reports, program‑related events and projects, and other duties as assigned Collaborates with supervisor on professional projects Assists with educational programming for MFE COE undergraduate students, such as new and transfer student orientation sessions, convocation, major forums, prospective student visit events, etc. Background Investigation Policy Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background investigation including a criminal background check, confirmation of credentials and employment history, and, if applicable, a satisfactory credit check.
