Principal Engineer

Role Description

As a Principal Engineer, you will help establish the engineering vision and act as the translator between strategic intent and scalable execution. This role drives technical direction and engineering strategy across enterprise engineering platforms by building the "paved path" - with a particular focus on developer experience, platform observability, and design and content enablement used by the QMARS team.

The Team you will be joining: QMARS

• Charged with maintaining and improving the software at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that supports the Quality Management and Review Systems (QMARS) program.
• QMARS online case management system supports the CMS Beneficiary and Family-Centered Care (BFCC) Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) program.
• The QIO program is one of the largest federal programs dedicated to improving healthcare quality for Medicare beneficiaries across the country.
• Continuously strive to modernize these systems while improving them in ways that reduce provider burden and minimize costs to CMS.
• Focus on enabling and empowering providers to improve the quality and safety of patient care.

Qualifications

• AWS CDK and CloudFormation
• AWS services (API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS)
• VPN (subnets, IP addressing, routing, etc)
• Networking and Routing (Route53 and General DNS troubleshooting, e.g. nslookup, A records, CNAME records, etc)
• AWS EKS and Kubernetes
• Willingness to learn new services
• "DevSecOps" security mindset (Shift left security)

Requirements

• AWS ECS/ECR, Lambda, EC2, Step Functions
• Monitoring like AWS CloudWatch, DataDog, PagerDuty
• Deployments like AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, Github Actions
• Security groups, IAM Roles
• Someone who looks for problems to solve versus waiting to have work assigned to them

Security Clearance Requirements

• US Citizenship or Green Card only - we do not offer Sponsorship
• US Residency for at least the past 3 years
• Able to meet the requirements to hold a position of Public Trust, including successful completion of a US Government background investigation
• Medical or recreational marijuana use is considered illegal at the federal level, regardless of state laws allowing such, and may affect your ability to obtain Public Trust.

Salary: $170,100 - $206,100 a year
