Construction Estimator

Chief EstimatorPosition OverviewThe Chief Estimator will lead the estimating function for a diversified construction company, delivering accurate, timely and competitive cost estimates to support winning bids and successful project delivery. This role is responsible for setting estimating standards, managing the estimating team, driving pre-construction strategy, and ensuring cost models reflect current market conditions across commercial, healthcare, education, retail, civil and public work.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and mentor the estimating team, assigning workload, developing skills and ensuring consistent estimating methodologies and quality control.Develop, review and approve detailed, accurate cost estimates, budgets and bid packages for a wide range of projects including commercial, healthcare, education, retail, civil and public sector work.Coordinate the entire bid process: solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes, consolidate estimates, prepare bid summaries and present recommendations to senior leadership.Establish and maintain estimating standards, templates, unit cost databases and historical cost records to improve accuracy and efficiency.Collaborate with business development, project managers, design teams and clients during pre-construction to inform constructability reviews, value engineering and risk mitigation strategies.Perform risk analysis, contingency planning and constructability assessments to identify cost drivers and propose mitigation measures.Maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and industry contacts to verify current pricing, lead times and market trends.Prepare executive-level reports and bid/no-bid recommendations, and present findings to owners, executives and stakeholders.Implement estimating software and technology tools, ensure data integrity, and drive continuous improvement in estimating processes.Ensure all estimates comply with contractual requirements, company policies, and applicable codes, regulations and procurement rules.QualificationsBachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Science or related field (or equivalent experience).Minimum of 10 years of progressive estimating experience in the construction industry with demonstrated success on medium to large projects.Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing estimating teams and managing the full bid lifecycle.Strong technical understanding of construction means and methods, cost modeling, quantity take-offs and value engineering.Required skills: Construction and Estimator demonstrated hands-on experience producing accurate estimates and managing estimating activities.Familiarity with estimating software and tools (e.g., plan takeoff and estimating platforms) and proficiency in MS Office; experience implementing estimating systems preferred.Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to present complex cost information to executives and clients.Track record working across multiple market sectors; experience with Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Retail, Civil and Public projects is highly desirable.Experience in pre-construction activities and collaboration with design teams to influence budget and schedule early in the project lifecycle.Certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent are a plus, as is experience with procurement best practices and subcontractor markets.BenefitsVacation/PTOMedicalDentalVision401kBonusRelocation
