DCS FYS Adjunct Instructor

Adjunct Instructor – First Year Seminar (Global Citizen) Responsibilities Design a class theme that aligns with your disciplinary perspective on global citizenship. (Provide a concise description, about 100 words, for the students.) Develop a semester outline including units of instruction and a tentative reading list for each unit, indicating the number of classes per unit. FYS meets 13 times each semester. Plan and incorporate 15–20 pages of written assignments throughout the semester. Identify and describe three Field‑Based Learning Excursions (FBLs) that relate to the course theme. Coordinate with the Center for Experiential Learning (CEL) to ensure students complete 4–6 hours of community service, in alignment with St. John’s Mission Statement. Qualifications Master’s degree (field of study unspecified) and at least one year of teaching experience, preferably in educational, psychological, or counseling disciplines. A strong academic background relevant to undergraduate coursework, structured training, and supervision, ensuring instructors can support student success in a seminar format. Faculty rank of Lecturer or equivalent teaching appointment. Ability to collaborate with instructors teaching other sections. Commitment to hold a weekly office hour (at least one ½ hour per credit hour taught). Compensation Semester/per credit salary: $1,750.00 USD (in compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act).
