Job Details Description Department : Living Collections Supervisor : Curator of Assigned Area Supervises : Area Keepers, volunteers, and interns FLSA Status : Full Time, Regular, Exempt Starting Salary: $76,482/year Application Submission Deadline : Open until filled General Statement Under direction of the Animal Curator, the Collection Manager is responsible for the organization and operation of an assigned animal trail through effective management of staff, animal care and facilities. This individual will supervise and manage a team of keepers and ensure husbandry and behavioral management practices support the Phoenix Zoo’s mission and core values through active collaboration in the development and presentation of interpretive material. Essential Duties Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional working attitude and appearance. Responsible for daily operation of assigned area including direct management of staff that includes recruitment, training, scheduling, payroll and performance management; provide encouragement of staff development through effective leadership communication, training, coaching and mentoring; create, foster and maintain a positive team-oriented work environment. Inspect, evaluate and maintain the care and well-being of the animals on the assigned trail and apply established husbandry, nutritional and behavioral management standards. Assist in the development of reproductive and exhibition strategies. Ensure that husbandry and behavioral management practices support the Phoenix Zoo’s mission and core values through active collaboration in the development and presentation of interpretive material, messaging and guest experiences. Conduct tours and assist with public, media and interviews as requested. Manage non-routine events and insure emergency response preparedness. Collaborate with internal staff and departments to ensure the maintenance, renovation, and improvements of exhibitions. Perform all Keeper duties as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in life science or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of 4 years’ experience working with exotic animal husbandry at an accredited AZA institution or related facility. Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience preferred. Proven organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent oral, written communication, interpersonal and managerial skills. Ability to successfully solve complex problems and serve as resource to others. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Able to bend, stoop, crawl, and walk on uneven surfaces. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
