Job Description: Main function: Performs essential procedural support duties by preparing, organizing, and maintaining sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with approved procedures and aseptic techniques. Assists the Surgeon with passing instruments and sterile supplies throughout the operation. Ensures patient and physician needs are met by monitoring equipment functionality, maintaining supply availability, communicating patient status, and promptly addressing any breaks in sterile protocol.


Requirements: High school diploma or GED certification; Completion of surgical scrub technician course; Operating room experience ; Strong ethical and moral character references

Duties & Responsibilities:
a) Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure
b) Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians' preference cards
c) Inspects equipment for proper working condition
d) Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures
e) Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure
f) Arranges instruments according to given procedure
g) Confirms that instruments work properly
h) Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
i) Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy
j) Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed
k) Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
l) Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure
m) Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
n) Maintains and updates instrument cards and surgeons' preference cards
o) Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
p) Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient's status

OUR FACILITY

The Surgery Center of Fairbanks opened on November 20, 2010. Since then, the facility has treated thousands of Interior Alaska residents with a wide range of health conditions. We specialize in outpatient surgery, where surgical procedures are performed and patients are allowed to go home the same day. We are the only free-standing fully dedicated outpatient surgical facility in the Fairbanks area. We specialize in patient care using modern technology and digital electronic interfaces. We create an environment where the patient is our number one priority. We are owned and operated by Alaskans and we are your neighbors and friends. We understand the issues that face all Alaskans when they need surgery and we are proud to play a role if they require our services.

The Surgery Center of Fairbanks works with all health government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Denali Kidcare, TriCare, and the Veterans Administration. We accept all private insurance carriers and we guarantee to work with any patient to minimize the financial strain that some surgical procedures may require.

Most surgical specialties are performed at our facility: urology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, general surgery, ear nose and throat, podiatry, gynecology, chronic pain procedures, and gastroenterology. We have a fully dedicated pediatric procedure room for children to make their experience easier.
