Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Underwriter to join our insurance team. This position is responsible for reviewing and servicing personal auto policies, assisting agents and customers, processing policy changes, monitoring underwriting exceptions, and helping ensure policies remain compliant with company underwriting guidelines.

The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable handling a high volume of tasks and phone calls, and able to identify underwriting issues that require follow-up or escalation.

Key Responsibilities

• Review new business, renewal, and endorsement exception reports throughout the day and address outstanding underwriting items.
• Review renewal exception lists and claims renewal reports/spreadsheets .
• Complete and assist with underwriting audits and maintain accurate audit tracking.
• Review and clear suspense items/flags and communicate with agents regarding missing information or required corrections.
• Handle cancellation calls and process or assist with cancellation requests according to company guidelines.
• Handle exclusion calls and ensure required documentation is completed accurately.
• Assist with NSF/non-sufficient funds calls and payment-related questions.
• Accept and process customer payments when appropriate.
• Respond to incoming calls from agents and policyholders regarding underwriting and policy questions.
• Process policy endorsements within established underwriting authority and guidelines.
• Review policies for accuracy and identify potential underwriting or compliance concerns.
• Maintain and update underwriting spreadsheets, reports, and tracking logs .
• Review and maintain paperless-discount exception reports and other discount-related reports.
• Generate SR-22 documentation when required.
• Assist with payment reminder calls during slower periods or as business needs require.
• Provide backup support for other underwriting team members when they are absent or workload requires assistance.
• Maintain accurate documentation of policy activity, conversations, decisions, and follow-up actions.
• Escalate risks or transactions that fall outside underwriting authority to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
• Follow established company procedures, underwriting guidelines, carrier requirements, and applicable insurance regulations.
• Perform additional underwriting and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience in personal auto insurance, underwriting, policy servicing, insurance customer service, or an insurance agency/MGA environment is preferred, but not required. 

Candidates should have strong attention to detail, organizational and time-management skills, professional phone and written communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other computer systems is expected.

Preferred Experience

Experience with personal auto insurance, policy endorsements, cancellations, exclusions, underwriting reports, audits, SR-22s, payment/NSF issues, insurance management systems, and Texas personal auto insurance would be beneficial.
