Projects Coordinator for the Division of Building and Land Development Services

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) promotes quality and affordability in the city's housing, and diversity and strength in the city’s neighborhoods because every New Yorker deserves a safe, affordable place to live in a neighborhood they love. The Office of Development (OOD) leads the agency’s effort to create and preserve affordable housing in collaboration with other HPD offices and city, state, and federal agencies. OOD includes multiple divisions such as New Construction Finance, Special Needs Housing, and Building and Land Development Services (BLDS). Job Overview As a Projects Coordinator in BLDS, you will assist the Executive Office in implementing priority projects and initiatives that support the goals of the division and agency. You will help plan, coordinate, and execute capital projects that may require collaboration with various city agencies, external partners, and community stakeholders. You will also maintain and prepare reports and statistical analyses related to projects and initiatives for Executive office review. Responsibilities Serve as a point of contact for priority capital projects and initiatives, coordinating with internal and external partners and community stakeholders. Engage in the planning and implementation of priority complex projects under the supervision of senior staff. Provide design and construction‑related technical assistance to consultants working on affordable housing projects to ensure tasks are completed on schedule. Review project documents to identify critical issues that need to be resolved to meet project milestones and deadlines. Collaborate with development teams—including architects, engineers, and contractors—to identify problems during pre‑development and/or construction and work collectively on a resolution to meet compliance with project requirements. Assist with design consultations and guidance to external development teams during the schematic design phase for projects that may have complex site and/or design issues. Coordinate with the Bureaus of Design Review Services (preservation and new construction), the Bureau of Engineering, and the Bureau of Construction Services to assure HPD‑assisted projects are in compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, resolutions, statutes, rules or regulations. Identify challenges or barriers to project implementation and proactively propose solutions or improvements. Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and events related to project initiatives, including preparing agendas, compiling background materials, and tracking follow‑up actions. Develop clear and concise briefing materials, reports, and presentations that summarize project statuses, data insights, and outcomes to inform executive‑level decision making. Participate in meetings, as necessary, and perform other related tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above, with at least one year of experience as described in “1” above. Preferred Skills Highly organized, with the ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines, and perform tasks with minimal supervision. Excellent computer and data analytics skills and proficiency in Microsoft Suite. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, negotiate with diverse technical specialists, apply independent judgment in technical matters, take initiative, and work effectively with others. Excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills. A valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments and must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. Candidate may be subject to a background investigation conducted by the New York City Department of Investigation. Authorization Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
