About the Opportunity

A growing international manufacturer of custom industrial machinery is seeking a hands-on Shipping & Receiving Clerk to join its team in Elk Grove Village. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to transition into a permanent position based on performance and business needs.

This is more than a traditional warehouse role-you'll play an important part in supporting both shipping operations and the manufacturing floor. What You'll Do

As the Shipping & Receiving Clerk, you'll be responsible for managing the daily flow of materials throughout the facility. Your responsibilities will include receiving incoming shipments, inspecting materials, stocking inventory, preparing customer orders, building shipping crates and pallets, generating shipping documentation, and loading outbound trucks.

In addition to shipping and receiving, you'll work alongside the production team to support mechanical assembly, electrical panel wiring, manual machining, and general shop maintenance when needed. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and contributing wherever they're needed.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, and stock incoming materials.
• Pick, package, label, and prepare customer shipments.
• Build shipping boxes, pallets, and wooden crates.
• Generate shipping documentation and coordinate outbound freight.
• Operate a sit-down forklift, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment.
• Maintain organized inventory and assist with inventory counts.
• Troubleshoot shipping discrepancies and ensure accurate documentation.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Support production with mechanical assembly, electrical panel wiring, manual machining, and shop maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of shipping and receiving experience in a manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years of sit-down forklift experience.
• Experience loading and unloading trucks and maintaining warehouse inventory.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.
• ERP experience is preferred (QuickBooks is a plus).
• Mechanical aptitude with the willingness to assist production.
• Spanish or Italian language skills are a plus but not required.
