Clinical Role

Join an established Gastroenterology service in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, providing coverage beginning November 1, 2026, for a one-year assignment.

The provider will provide both outpatient clinic and shared call coverage, with approximately 1214 procedures performed per day. The service performs general GI procedures as well as mid-level/moderate-complexity ERCP. EUS is not required.

The practice has a pleasant and kind culture and highly values providers with strong relationship-building and communication skills.

Schedule:

• MondayFriday
• Clinic hours: 8:00 AM5:00 PM
• Shared call with another provider
• Call is offsite
• Emergency consultation response within 30 minutes
• Routine consultation response within 12 hours
• Provider called in after hours approximately 12 times per week

Coverage Model:

• Full-time coverage preferred
• Client is open to two providers alternating weeks
• Strong preference for one consistent provider
• APP support provided
• Shared call structure

Procedural Suite

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Provide Gastroenterology coverage
• See patients in the outpatient clinic
• Perform approximately 1214 procedures per day
• Perform upper endoscopies
• Perform colonoscopies
• Perform ERCP procedures
• Evaluate and manage GI conditions
• Provide diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
• Perform biopsies as clinically indicated
• Manage active GI bleeding
• Participate in shared call coverage
• Respond to emergency consultations within 30 minutes
• Respond to routine consultations within 12 hours
• Coordinate care with APPs and the multidisciplinary team
• Build strong relationships with patients and families
• Document patient care using Meditech

Procedural Responsibilities

General GI:

• Upper Endoscopies (EGD)
• Colonoscopies
• Colonoscopy with or without polypectomy
• Diagnostic and therapeutic EGD
• Flexible sigmoidoscopy
• Foreign body removal via EGD
• Biopsies of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, and colon
• Non-variceal hemostasis of the upper and lower GI tract

Advanced Procedures:

• ERCP Required
• Mid-level/moderate-complexity ERCP
• EUS Not required

Additional Procedures:

• Esophageal, duodenal, or luminal stent placement
• Argon plasma coagulation
• Enteral alimentation
• Esophageal dilation using balloon, bougie, or Savary with guidewire
• Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
• GI motility studies
• 24-hour pH monitoring

The provider will work with an established Gastroenterology service and receive APP support. The practice has a pleasant and kind culture and places a strong emphasis on communication and relationship building.

Patient Population

The patient population is described as medically complex and sometimes noncompliant. Patients often bring family members to appointments. Providers who are patient, communicative, and skilled at building strong relationships are highly preferred.
