Yosemite Pathology is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive state of the art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.Summary/ObjectiveThe Histology Department Supervisor must have a deep understanding of Histology Department workflow and priorities and uphold the company values of Yosemite Pathology. This position is responsible for cutting, staining, quality control, and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review. Additional responsibilities are prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. This position provides oversight to Histology Department staff and is responsible for providing daily technical guidance/support, training, and implementing best practices for optimal workflow and quality. Shift: Monday - Friday 6:00am - 2:30pmEssential FunctionsPerforming all daily technical bench functions of the Histology Department while providing daily guidance on workflow and prioritization of Department tasksCheck "H&E", special stains, and IHC controls for stain qualitySetting up, cleaning, and maintenance of instrumentsRetrieving correct blocks and slides for any request from PathologistMaintain special stains and IHC control banksPerforming training, competency assessments, and annual performance evaluations for Histology staffAssist in inventory maintenance for the histology department Basic understanding of H&E stainKnowledge and understanding of special stains and IHCsPerform troubleshooting and problem solving as necessary to determine and resolve technical issues.Communicate clearly with staff, Pathologists, and Assistant Director of Laboratory ServicesEnsure the Histology Department remains in compliance with all CLIA regulatory guidelinesJob Requirements and Skills 2 - 4 years of Histology experienceASCP HT Certification (or in process of obtaining)Associates Degree in Biology or related field (Preferred)Strong communication skills, verbally and written.Manual Dexterity and strong attention to detailExcellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask and pay attention to detailFoster teamwork, problem solve and demonstrate critical thinking and conflict resolution skillsWork under pressure sometimes in stressful situationsCommunicate effectively both orally and in writingExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDocumentation skills, ability to research and resolve issuesAbility to multi-task with a results-oriented paradigm in a fast-pace, high volume environmentProficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Strong Excel and Word skillsStrong interpersonal skillsAbility to make quick decisionsFocus on quality for the best patient careIntermediate computer skillsLaboratory Information System experience a plusCompensation and Benefits The compensation is $80,000 - $95,000 annually paid semi-monthly on an eight (8) hour per day, forty (40) hour per week.
