SUMMARY

SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for an Area Coordinator. The Office of Residential Life and Learning Communities supports SUNY Brockport's mission by developing safe, inclusive, and vibrant communities that value academic excellence and overall student development. Through collaboration and unique relationships with students, our staff provides an appropriate balance of challenge and support, community development, and a purposeful residential curriculum with holistic student education at its core. Area Coordinators are a critical position with our department that supports supervision of Resident Directors, in addition to direct support of our residential student population with educational programming, crisis responses, occupancy management and ensuring they are providing a safe, inclusive and engaged community experience for their residents.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:

Supervision

• Supervises two to four professional staff.

• Assists with training, assessment and accountability of supervised professional staff.

• Supervises resident assistants and other student support staff.

Residential Curriculum

• Administers and operates a community of residential learning.

• Develops and implements specific residential curriculum initiatives to build a comprehensive learning environment that fosters academic success and personal growth.

• Collaborates with living learning communities and with other Student Affairs departments such as the Educational Opportunities Program, Academic Success Center, Student Union Leadership & Activities, Health Promotion & Prevention Education services, and University Police.

• Completes academic interventions with residents of assigned residence halls to ensure residential students have access and knowledge of support services to assist in their academic success.

• Participates and hosts campus events.

• Serves on departmental and campus-wide committees.

• Serves as a liaison to a campus partner, such as Educational Opportunities Program or First Year Experience.

• Supports implementation of Residential Curriculum.

Student Conduct and Incident Response

• Participates in the student conduct process, serving as a hearing officer for cases.

• Participates in an on-call duty rotation.

Occupancy Management

• Manages housing for approximately 200 to 400 first year, transfer, or continuing students.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree by time of appointment in education, counseling or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university

• Minimum of two years of professional experience in Residential Life or Housing

• Experience with student learning and development

• Ability to work in a diverse college population and commitment to creating an inclusive environment

• Ability and willingness to reside in on-campus housing

• Must be able to climb stairs, complete rounds, and physically respond to duty calls within residence halls across campus

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree by time of appointment in college student personnel, higher education, counseling or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university

• Prior experience supervising professional staff

• Experience designing and implementing student learning outcomes

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on departmental initiatives including Living Learning Communities and Residential Education/Curriculum

• Experience with current technology initiatives such as Maxient, CBORD Odyssey HMS, Starfish, and CT Banner information system

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Schedule:

37.5 hours/week; Monday- Friday, 9am- 5pm, with some nights and weekends required.

Retirement

• NYS Employees' Retirement System (ERS) and NYS Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) - Defined benefit plans; benefits are based on best Final Average Salary and years of service.

• SUNY Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) - Defined contribution plan; benefits are based on the employer and employee contributions and the success of the investments. Employer contribution is 8% of salary for first seven years of service, 10% thereafter.

Membership for full-time and permanent employees is mandatory. All full-time employees are eligible to elect ERS or the ORP; employees in teaching, librarian, or coach (including assistant) titles are also eligible for TRS and may choose any of the three plans.
